Client wrote letter asking why his account dropped from $920,000 to $719,000. This was after the 9/11 attack on NYC. It was not a complaint it was an inquiry and the Compliance Officer chose to treat it as a complaint. This letter was written in 2001 and I gave my notice on 6/1/2002. The action on this was taken after my notice that I was leaving the firm was received. MERRILL LYNCH provided the information sought by customer. The customer, however, took no further action.

Client wrote a letter claiming he wanted $160,000 for losses in the account. Merrill Lynch explained that these were normal losses based on the stock market and that he is ignoring the fact the account had made $180,000. The client had a net gain of $20,000. His claim was based on a statement made right after 9/11. No response was ever received from the client.
